2pint jarsTomato Sauces2- 15 oz cans of store bought tomato sauce can be used
1small canTomato Paste
1 canBlack OlivesOptional, sliced
1 largeWhole OnionPeeled and left whole
1cupGrated Parmesan CheeseFresh grated or packaged
Garlic Powder or Fresh Garlicto taste
1/4cupDried Italian SeasoningFresh Thyme, Basil, Oregano, Sage and Marjoram can be used instead to taste
1lbGround Beef, Italian Sausage, or Italian Sausage linksBrowned, Optional
Various Chopped Veggies-Carrots, Zucchini, Mushrooms, PeppersOptional to taste
Add all ingredients to a stock pot or cast iron Dutch oven, simmer on low all day until thick. Serve over noodles, with garlic bread. Makes a great sauce for casseroles or lasagna. Even better the second day!
This hearty sauce is excellent with spaghetti noodles, in casseroles, lasagnas and more.
Feel free to add your favorite veggies, carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms are a few of our favorites.
We love to brown some hamburger meat or Italian sausage and add to this sauce as well. Or serve with Italian Sausage links.
This sauce cans well. Combine all ingredients and simmer until fully hot. Ladle into hot canning jars and pressure can process for 75 minutes for pints or 90 minutes for quarts if it has meat in the sauce.
