Easy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 pint jars Diced or Stewed Tomatoes 4 -15 oz cans of store bought diced or stewed tomatoes can be used
  • 2 pint jars Tomato Sauces 2- 15 oz cans of store bought tomato sauce can be used
  • 1 small can Tomato Paste
  • 1 can Black Olives Optional, sliced
  • 1 large Whole Onion Peeled and left whole
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Fresh grated or packaged
  • 3-4 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • Garlic Powder or Fresh Garlic to taste
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/4 cup Dried Italian Seasoning Fresh Thyme, Basil, Oregano, Sage and Marjoram can be used instead to taste
  • 1 lb Ground Beef, Italian Sausage, or Italian Sausage links Browned, Optional
  • Various Chopped Veggies-Carrots, Zucchini, Mushrooms, Peppers Optional to taste

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a stock pot or cast iron Dutch oven, simmer on low all day until thick. Serve over noodles, with garlic bread. Makes a great sauce for casseroles or lasagna. Even better the second day!

Notes

  • This hearty sauce is excellent with spaghetti noodles, in casseroles, lasagnas and more.
  • Feel free to add your favorite veggies, carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms are a few of our favorites.
  • We love to brown some hamburger meat or Italian sausage and add to this sauce as well. Or serve with Italian Sausage links. 
  • This sauce cans well. Combine all ingredients and simmer until fully hot. Ladle into hot canning jars and pressure can process for 75 minutes for pints or 90 minutes for quarts if it has meat in the sauce.
